Here are some pictures of the detailed construction for the month of May 2005. I decided to try my hand again at doing some lighting with LED's. This is 1/72 scale and the led's are a little oversized. I'd hate to have to do this for 1/144.

Lights
05/21/05 - This is the LED with the wires attached. This is a 3mm white LED. This is about the smallest you can get. I also am going to try some surface mount LED's. I am using 38 gauge wire using about 4" of wire. I am planning on running everything down the elevator shaft. For the long runs i'll use something like 28 gauge attaching the 38 to the 28 inside the elevator shaft. or running the 38 all the way down to the bottom of the shaft. I am figuring on about 6 LED's per level on the FSS. You have to be careful soldering the wires to the LED you dont want to apply to much heat it will destroy the LED. Use a low wattage soldering iron.
Lights
05/21/05 -Here is the LED with the first piece of styrene attached to it. One good thing is the Sytrene bonds easily to the LED. I filled the styrene with putty to keep things solid.
Lights
05/21/05 -Here I attched the support rod for the light. Depending on the location the lights have different methods of attachment.
Lights
05/21/05 - Here is the first compelted light assembly.
Lights
05/21/05 - Wow it actually lights. They are a little bright at this point. But i can handle that with the proper resistor.
Lights
05/21/05 - Here is is in a test position and lighted. a little hard to see.....but i'll do a level and post some pics.
Lights
05/21/05 - Here is how I plan to do the lights that are mounted to poles on the RSS. Again its a little oversized. But this is the smallest I can handle.
Lights
05/22/05 - Two lamps mounted. Ran the wire down the elevator shaft. It sure is a pain to do. I'm going to do just one level now to get and idea on what i need to do and finish the rest once the model is painted. I roughed up the led surface with sandpaper to give it a diffused look.

Pad
05/26/05 - Well here is the starting point for the pad. I originally made this a number of years ago. Now i need to redo it to get it to look like the real thing. I wasn't going to do a real sized flame trench now I think I need to do that to make it look semi realistic. Plus its a little large. I need to cut down the size or it will be to hard to transport.
